At South Bay Contemporary, San Pedro , CA, April 6 - May 20th, Reception April 8.
Artist Julia Barbee initiated this collaboration about a year ago and with fellow artist/mother Megan Schvaneveldt we have explored how becoming a mother has and continue to influence our art practice. We have been sharing ideas, photos, documents, sketches, trials and experiments with each other over miles and miles of distance and are excited to see how this finally has evolved into a show.
It is based around Barbee's idea "Mother Naturalist" which takes many different paths, both political, ephemeral and playful.
Working with Mother Naturalist, I have been documenting with both photo and drawing how our bodies are forever linked and how I move to protect. There is also a generational link in trying to connect my experience as a mother and my son, to my late Grandma through the worn bed textiles.
I wish I could be there for the opening and if you are in the area you should definitely try to make it! I'll be there in spirit this time!
